Real Madrid Book Super Cup Final After Edging Valencia On Penalties

Real Madrid have booked a spot in the Spanish Super Cup final after dispatching Valencia 4-3 on penalties.

Thibaut Courtois saved a crucial penalty to hand Los Blanco a final berth. They will square off with either Barcelona or Real Betis on Sunday.

Karim Benzema gave Madrid a well deserved lead from the spot before halftime after he was brought down by Comert in the penalty box.

Samuel Lino restored parity for Valencia within a minute from the restart after their opponents were caught off guard.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side prod and pushed for the winner but Valencia’s goalkeeper Mamardashvili was impregnable in goal post and made five crucial saves to deny Madrid.

Valencia were constantly under siege throughout the 90 minutes and in extra time but their phenomenal goalkeeper kept them in the game until the shootouts.

Real Madrid converted all four of their penalties while Comert struck his over the bar before Courtois saved Gaya’s feeble penalty to send the LaLiga Champions into the finals.
