Real Madrid ‘set date’ for fresh Alphonso Davies move

Alphonso Davies

Real Madrid will make one final push to sign Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies after the Copa America comes to an end, reports in Spain have claimed.

Davies has long been a major target for Madrid this summer as he enters the final 12 months of his contract, but they are reluctant to pay a significant fee to sign a player who could join for free at the end of the coming season.

Bayern are reported to be chasing a fee of around €50m (£42.2m) to part ways with Davies but, as AS note, Madrid feel as though that price should be lower considering the left-back’s clear desire to make the move to Spain.

Madrid officials have backed away from the deal while Davies is away at the Copa America but, once Canada’s journey comes to an end, they are expected to make a renewed effort to get a deal done.

Once Davies’s focus on his national team is done, Madrid plan to reach back out to Bayern as they still see the 23-year-old as the final piece to what could be a perfect summer transfer window.

Madrid have already signed both Endrick and Kylian Mbappe, who will be presented at the Santiago Bernabeu later this month, and while they would like Davies to bolster their back line immediately, they are prepared to wait 12 months to sign him on a free transfer.

With both Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia already in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, Madrid feel as though there is no rush to sign Davies and will therefore not be forced into a deal that does not make sense to them.

Bayern have tried to keep Davies and have offered him the chance to sign an improved contract, but a positive conclusion has not been reached. Reports had suggested Bayern were prepared to keep Davies for the next year and let him leave for free, but it was later claimed that they would look to sell the Canada international while they still can.
