First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has mourned the passing of the Former Second Lady Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama.
She died at the Korle Bu Teaching hospital on Thursday April 7, a family statement said.
“The family has lost a great pillar. Burial and funeral rites would be conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions. Further information will be provided in due course,” portion of the statement read.
The former Second Lady died at the age of 70 after battling illness.
“It is with deep sorrow, I announce the passing of my beloved mom, the former Second Lady of the Republic, Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama(neè Egala). She passed on peaceful in Accra at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital earlier this afternoon.
“The family has lost a great pillar. Burial and funeral rites would be conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions. Further information will be provided in due course.”
Yesterday, I visited the family of our late former second lady H. E Hajia Rahmatu Aliu Mahama.
Today, I joined the family, friends and sympathizers to perform the Janazah prayers at the black star square.

Mrs Akufo-Addo tweeted after visiting the family that “Yesterday, I visited the family of our late former second lady H. E Hajia Rahmatu Aliu Mahama. Today, I joined the family, friends and sympathizers to perform the Janazah prayers at the black star square. Fare thee well Hajia. Forever in our hearts.”
