A former Member of Parliament(MP) for the Ayensuano Constituency Ayeh-Paye Samuel is currently being dragged on social media for allegedly playing the religious card in the campaign leading to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Internal Elections.
From our investigations, some chats between the former lawmaker who holds himself as the Eastern Regional Campaign Director for John Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten and some delegates have been intercepted.
In the leaked chats, Ayeh-Paye is seen convincing delegates not to think of voting for the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia just because he is a Muslim and does not belong to the majority religious group in the country.
He argues that the Vice President will lose because the elections of 2024 will be based on religious grounds, especially because the New Patriotic Party has failed woefully to make Ghana’s economy better.
“We have already lost the battle of the economy. What we have left is a religious and tribal game, if you don’t have that to our favour then we are finished,” Ayeh-Paye told one delegate he was convincing to vote against Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Some leading persons who have expressed worry over the conduct of the former Member of Parliament believe that such an individual should be called to order because his actions are divisive and mediocre.
