Rigging an election is impossible in Ghana – EC

Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission (EC) has refuted claims of collusion with any political party to manipulate the December 7 general elections.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) recently accused the EC of collaborating with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to influence election outcomes in the Ashanti Region.

Addressing these allegations at a security symposium held at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, the EC’s Head of Training, dismissed the claims as baseless.

He emphasized that the current electoral system is designed to prevent any form of rigging, ensuring the integrity and transparency of the process.

“There is no way an election in Ghana can be rigged. There is no way. It can only be done with the collaboration of all stakeholders. Because at any point in time, the people are there. That will mean the Electoral Commission will be compromised and the party agents themselves will be compromised.

“Because when they count, and it is 10, they say it is 100, and everybody agrees. It is not possible. So, there can be irregularities, there can be fraudulent activities, but rigging an election is impossible in Ghana.”
