Sexual harassment against female students on the rise in SHSs, students urged to report cases

The Issues of Sexual harassment against female students in our various Senior High schools are on the rise with school recording complains for such act every semester.

The situation is alarming and as for that, students especially female students have been advised not to keep to themselves when harassed sexually but rather make a formal complain to authorities to act on in order to stop this disturbing trend.

Speaking to Journalists on the sidelines of awareness creation against sexual harassment at Akraman SHS, the Coordinator of the Guidance and Counseling Unit at AKRASEC, Madam Grace Adomako bemoaned situation where girls are threatened if report to anyone after been harassed sexually.

She noted that it is more safe for victims of Sexual harassment to report incidents to school authorities or authorities in the community as it is the only way to stop the increasing trend and protect the Girl-child.

She cautioned Young guys who under the influence of weed and alcohol intend to harass ladies to shy from it else if caught, such person will be put before the law to face justice.

On their part, some Female students of Akraman SHS who participated in the campaign against sexual harassment praised the school authorities for such education.

They however said previously it was difficult for them to report incidents of such nature but with the education given to them, they now feel safe to report any advances from guys.
