Ghana Premier League Champions Asante Kotoko have confirmed the acquisition of Steven Dese Mukwala on a free transfer after a fruitful negotiations.
Dese Mukwala has signed a two-year deal with a option of a year extension with the two-time CAF Champions League winners after passing a mandatory medical test.
The club’s official statement reads “Welcome Mukwala Steven Dese. The Ugandan joins us on a free transfer for a period of two years with an option to extend for a further year.”
The prolific striker was heavily linked with a switch to Asante Kotoko in the last two transfer window but the contractual obligations laid by URA FC forced the Ghanaian giants to back out of the negotiations.
In 2019, Mukwala was loaned at Maroons FC for the new season 2019-2020 where he has scored 13 goals in 22 matches to clinch the 2019/20 Uganda Premier League golden boot award.
His speed and power to finish the ball caught the attention of several clubs in 2020 including Asante Kotoko but Uganda Rivers Authority (URA FC) won the race to acquire him on a two-year deal with an option of renewal.
He ended the 2020/21 Uganda Premier League season as the top scorer of Uganda Rivers Authority (URA FC) after notching fourteen (14) goals in 24 matches.
The 23-year-old also notched 13 goals in the recently ended 2021/22 Ugandan Premier League for URA FC, finishing as the club’s second top scorer of the season
