Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, has hit out at Portugal fans following criticism of her brother’s recent performances.
Ronaldo was a pale shadow of himself when Portugal clashed with Spain on Tuesday. He squandered key chances that eventually saw his side miss out on the Nation’s League semis after falling to Spain in a 0-1 defeat.
Fans did not hide their emotions as they took to social media to vent their spleen on the Manchester United forward with some questioning his place in Portugal’s starting lineup.
But Aveiro jumped to the defense of her brother insisting Ronaldo is still the best player in the world.
She wrote on Instagram saying “He has his family and those who love him by his side. They will always be by his side, no matter what…But the current times don’t surprise me at all. The Portuguese spit on the plate they eat, it has always been that way.”
“That’s why when someone appears from the ashes and changes mentalities, it bothers…With you always, my king. Calm down.” she added.
She has however admitted that Ronaldo is going through difficult period in his career but criticized supporters for not giving him a helping hand.
