Gabby Otchere-Darko, a key member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, has hinted that the government may soon have to borrow to pay wages if measures are not done.
He claims that the little revenue generated internally is insufficient to pay off the country’s debt.
Mr. Otchere-Darko stated that while Ghana’s economy is rising, it is insufficient to save the situation.
Gabby Otchere-Darko, in a previous tweet, had bemoaned the failure of measures put in place by the government to raise revenue for Ghana.
He claimed that, despite the high hopes that spawned the concept of placing a 1.5 percent charge on electronic transactions, the government has only received 10% of the money predicted from the contentious E-Levy.
In a tweet on Monday, he said, Our economy is growing faster than most countries around the world. But, that alone can’t save us as confidence in our ability to service our debts is lowering. We can’t continue to use all the little revenues raised to pay our debts. Very soon we may have to borrow to pay wages!”
