The Sekondi Sports Stadium, popularly known as Essipong Stadium, is one of Ghana’s premier multi-purpose venues, with a seating capacity of 20,000.
Commissioned in 2008, the stadium was a key host for several matches during the 2008 African Cup of Nations and serves as the home ground for Sekondi Hasaacas FC.
However, the once-proud facility has now fallen into disrepair. Renovations, which began four years ago, have seen little progress, leaving the stadium in a prolonged state of neglect.
Local residents are increasingly frustrated by the delay and are calling for the prompt completion of the renovation.
They believe that restoring the stadium is crucial for boosting sports development in the region.
