Some five municipal assembly members in the Central Region have resolved to partner the Police in the fight against highway robberies.
The Assemblies at a MUSEC meeting in Winneba agreed to intensify patrols on the highway to curb the growing number of highway robberies on the stretch.
The Kasoa to Cape Coast stretch since the beginning of the year has witnessed four major highway robberies. The Gomoa Dabenyi incident saw one driver and two passengers being shot by the robbers while the Gomoa Dominase incident saw passengers robbed off their valuables without any casualties. In the third incident that happened in between Gomoa Dominse and Potsin passengers onboard commercial and private vehicles were also robbed with the last one happening at Apam Junction.
Interestingly these incidents happened within a spate of one week raising concerns from authorities.
In all five Municipal and District assemblies which includes Effutu Municipal Assembly, Agona West , Agona East, Gomoa East and West engaged in emergency MUSEC meeting together with security officials to find lasting solution to the robberies on the stretch.
He further stressed that, the member of parliament for Effutu constituency who doubles as the majority leader in parliament Hon Afenyo Markin has promised to buy them brand new pickup vehicles can can help them during the patrols on the highway.
Alhaji Zubeiru Kassim the Municipal Chief Executive for Effutu who chaired the meeting spoke to Obaatanpa News Mireku Nyampong the measures putting up to fine solution to it.
He also charged commuters and drivers who uses the high way to remain calm and have confident in the police because there’s enough measures in place to help fight against this robbers.
