We didn’t cause arrest of Nahinso chief – Asokwa Municipal Assembly

The Asokwa Municipal Assembly has dismissed allegations that it was responsible for the arrest of Chief Nana Addo Boaman of Nahinso in the Ashanti Region.

Contrary to claims that the chief was detained for conducting road works, the Assembly clarified that the chief’s arrest was not related to these activities.

Instead, the Assembly asserts that Chief Boaman used road works as a cover to illegally fill a wetland near a pylon using laterite, without proper authorization.

On July 18, tensions escalated between officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and Chief Nana Addo Boaman over the filling of a wetland. While some residents support the chief’s actions as a measure against flooding, others are concerned about the long-term environmental impact.

Chief Boaman defended his actions, claiming he filled the wetland and repaired parts of a bad road to prevent flooding.

However, NADMO officials argue that the area is a protected wetland and that the chief’s actions could have detrimental effects.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Asokwa, Akunuasah Gyimah, criticized the chief for allegedly misleading the public.

“It is surprising that instead of telling the police the truth, that some of his boys were invited by the police for engaging in sand wining activity, He decided to peddle the falsehood that he was the one arrested by the police.

Gyimah reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to enforcing laws related to wetland protection, regardless of an individual’s status.

He emphasized that the Asokwa Municipal Assembly was not involved in the chief’s arrest and remains dedicated to upholding its responsibilities.
