We were unfair to your leadership – NPP Activist begs Paul Afoko

Paul Afoko

An activist of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP), Frank Osei has offered an unqualified apology to short-lived NPP Chairman Paul Afoko who was ousted from office in what some political watchers believe was orchestrated by loyalists to current President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He contends the Afoko-led Chairmanship wanted to prevent some members of the NPP including President Nana Addo from hijacking and controlling the party, reason they were ousted from the party.

Speaking on live radio, the former aide to Dr Richard Amoako Baah admitted that knowing certain facts now in the NPP makes him appreciate some of the actions that were being taken by the Paul Afoko chairmanship then before being ousted.

“It’s not been long since we elected national executives. Where we are now as a party, after Kufuor and Nana Addo taking over the party? Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong said they will not allow anybody hijack the party especially those who were leading the party then, but we failed to listen to him (them). What I am privy  to today gives indication they were right, but I was part of those that hounded him Afoko and his team out of the party. I will like to officially apologize to Afoko for my role to get him out of the party”, he expressed remorse

“Since they (Afoko) we ousted, Nana Addo and his team brought Freddie Blay and they have since hijacked the party, doing whatever they want with the party that is not helping the party till date”, he added.

It would be recalled that some wild claims have been made by Dr. Richard Amoako Baah owing  to the fact that delays in scheduling a date for the NPP presidential and parliamentary primaries is as a result of some machinations by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“It’s a contention between the president and the party [with regard to the date for the primaries]. The president wants to hold the primaries in February next year which he said his 2024 budget would have been passed by then. The MPs on the other hand, also want the primaries held in August 2023, to give them enough room to do whatever it is that they have to do to keep the party in good shape.”, he observed

This situation has angered a number of NPP faithful’s like Frank Osei who thinks what is happening in the party is not right and must be addressed by the party elders.

“From 2012 till now the party now belongs to Akufo-Addo, I beg to ask, he (the president) is left with just under two years to leave office. Why is he still toying with the party and resisting certain changes and activities within the party? I am confused about these things, when he leaves the party and it’s in a fix, how do we get those issues resolved” he questioned.
