President-elect John Dramani Mahama paid a visit to Kenyan President William Ruto to engage in discussions regarding regional integration initiatives and continental security matters.
During this meeting, Mahama reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing trade among nations within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Mr. Mahama indicated that the purpose of his visit was to express gratitude for President Ruto’s longstanding support and to extend an invitation to his inauguration scheduled for January 7.
In a Facebook post after the visit on Sunday, December 29, Mr Mahama said “It was a great opportunity to discuss our regional integration efforts, continental security and how we can work collectively to upscale the benefits of the AfCFTA. As a former Chair of the AU high-level committee on Trade, I remain committed to expanding trade among our countries under the aegis of the AfCFTA. We shall strengthen relations between Kenya and Ghana.”
President Ruto expressed to Mr. Mahama his commitment to strengthening the ties between Kenya and Ghana by expanding collaboration in various sectors, including trade and investment, agriculture, mining, tourism, and oil and gas.
He emphasized that this initiative would create greater opportunities for the citizens of both nations and promote mutual prosperity.
Additionally, he expressed gratitude to Mahama for endorsing Hon. Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the position of chairperson of the African Union Commission. President Ruto also confirmed his intention to be present at the swearing-in ceremony.
