The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has challenged the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) claim of creating 2.1 million jobs between 2017 and 2022.
NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama made this statement during a tour of the Ahafo Region, accusing the NPP of making false claims to win votes.
The NPP has been promoting its achievements in various sectors, including job creation, as part of its re-election efforts.
However, Mahama argued that the unemployment rate has risen under the NPP, increasing from 8% during the NDC’s tenure to nearly 15%.
He questioned the whereabouts of the 2 million jobs, noting that many people in the region have not seen the benefits.
Mahama also highlighted the need for a 24-hour economy to generate more job opportunities for Ghanaians.
Mahama indicated, “We cannot be deceived any more. We’ll create jobs for the youth to be employed. The unemployment rate during the NDC’s government was 8%.
“However, the current unemployment rate under the NPP government is 14% which is almost 15%. But this government claimed they have created over 2 million jobs.”
“I’m asking, where are the jobs? How come the people here have not benefitted from it? This is a tactic to win votes. That is why the NDC government has proposed the 24-hour economy, which will create more job opportunities.”
