Why Twitter chose Ghana for its first African office

US-based social media giant, Twitter has announced that it has chosen Ghana as its new office- the first in the African continent. The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Jack Dorsey announced on Twitter on Monday, 12th April, 2021.

The move, according to the Tech-entrepreneur is in line with strategies to expand the company’s growth in the African region.

Stating why the company chose Ghana as the first African region for its office the company explained that, “As a champion for democracy, Ghana is a supporter of free speech, online freedom, and the Open Internet, of which Twitter is also an advocate.

Furthermore, Ghana’s recent appointment to host The Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area aligns with our overarching goal to establish a presence in the region that will support our efforts to improve and tailor our service across Africa.”

When completed the company’s new office will employ enthusiastic specialists to fill various vacancies in product, design, engineering, marketing and communications.

“Aligned with our existing WFH policies, we look forward to welcoming and onboarding our new team members remotely so that we can make an immediate impact while we explore the opportunity to open an office in Ghana in the future”, it added.

Meanwhile, Jack Dorsey has thanked the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo for making arrangements, and giving government’s support for the office.
