Wontumi-led administration can’t break the eight – NPP regional chairman aspirant Asare-Bediako

An aspiring regional chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Asare-Bediako, has cast doubt the current party leadership can amass votes to “break the eight” in 2024.

He is of the view that with the trend at which the NPP lost votes in its stronghold during the 2020 elections, the party may head to opposition if the crop of leadership maintains power.

Mr Asare-Bediako, speaking in an exclusive interview on Akoma FM’s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma Friday, May 6, explained in Ghanaian language (Twi) that “Chairman Wontumi failed to honour his agenda 47/47 promise and again he even couldn’t add up to the votes we had in 2016 but rather lost almost half a million votes. This means that he has lost touch with the people, so I think we need a fresh person to fuel the party into 2024 and I am the right person for the job”.

In the 2020 general elections, candidate Nana Akufo-Addo who represented NPP, gathered 1,793,773, representing 71.64% while the NDC’s John Mahama managed 652,962 representing 26.08%. Meanwhile, the figures were in NPP’s favor during the 2016 polls where Akufo-Addo had 76.3% and John Mahama lost with 23.0%.

The aspiring chairman in the NPP stronghold is confident if he is given the nod, the seeming apathy will be a thing of the past because he is noted to be a born organizer hence he will ensure all hands on deck to forge a united front for the party to realize its much touted ‘Break the eight’ slogan.
