AUDIO: “We were about 25”-Survivor of Apam drowning incident speaks

One of the victims who survived in the drowning incident occurred last Sunday at Apam in the Central region has disclosed that they were about 25.

The visibly terrified 15 year old boy [name withheld] indicated that they were taken by the heavy waves  but he was lucky he survived with one other.

Explaining how the incident happened, the young survivor stated that the waves carried them in two batches, and none of the victims survived in the first batch but as for the second batch two of them were able to escape death.

He further stated that the waves deposited the second batch, of which he was a member in a big pit where two of them were able to swim ashore to be rescued indicating that the rest could not survive the second wave.

Obaatanparadioonline.com yesterday reported the sad incident of about 20 children who got drowned at Apam in the Central Region.

According to local authorities the children went to the accident site to swim in the sea which has been on close down since president Akufo-Addo ordered all beaches to close as part of covid-19 preventive protocols.
