The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East and Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mrs. Mavis Hawa Koomson is dredging 20 kilometers Okrudu river which flows through the heart of Kasoa; the biggest town in the constituency.

This move forms part of the initiative of Mrs. Mavis Hawa Koomson in ensuring that Kasoa is flood-free during the rainy season.

Mr. Emmanuel Affram Anim, the 2020 Campaign Manager for the MP, today toured some dredging project sites in Kasoa to ascertain the level of work done, ahead of the rainy season.

This Okrudu Drain is one of the biggest drains in West Africa and the dredging is part of the Minister’s efforts to minimize the effects of the annual flooding the constituency experiences, especially in the rainy season, which destroys properties worth millions of Ghana Cedis.

The 2020 Campaign Manager further explained that the dredging of the drains is one of the plans to keep gutters in Kasoa free of solid waste to allow free flow of water anytime it rained.

According to him, the project is also aimed at improving the drainage systems in the constituency by focusing on the flood zone in the Okrudu basin and beyond and in order to alleviate flooding and insanitary conditions in the constituency especially Kasoa.

He added that the MP does this exercise every year just that she has added many kilometers to what she used to dredge.

He expressed hope that the project would be completed before the rainy season.
