‘After many years of doing real rap music, I’ve made no money’ – Edem cries out

Ghanaian rapper Edem of Volta descent claims that he hasn’t earned any money from his music career.

When interviewed by Andy Dosty on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, the rapper said Ghanaians do not love rap music, which explains the low level of popularity of the genre in the country.

According to Edem, the majority of his songs that are popular in the nation include very few rap components and instead feature a lot of vocals.

“I never got compensated for my rap tracks. It was not because of rap that I gave my support. ‘Nyornuviade’ is my most popular tune… According to him, the most profitable songs are his “Over Again” song and “Koene.”

Asked about what he believes has contributed to the plight of rap music in Ghana, Edem said that the fan base for rap musicians does not show strong support for the genre.

Also blamed DJs for not pushing the genre, he said.
