Counter-Terrorism Unit from the Police Headquarters, Accra in collaboration with Weija Divisional Police Command has arrested over ten people including Police and National Security Officers protecting illegal sand winning site at Obom-gbazor in the Ga South Municipality in the Greater Accra Region.
These Security officers were caught holding guns and machetes all in the name of protecting the illegal sand winning site and tormenting the core owners of the land including farmers
Information gathered by obaatanparadioonline reporter, Mireku Nyampong revealed that over 1000 crops have been destroyed by the activities of these illegal sand winners at Obom Agbozo and these sand winners have the backing of some Police and National Security Officers
The Municipal Chief Executive for Ga South, Joseph Nyarni in an interview with the Reporter Mireku Nyampong explained, the people are not having a working permit to go into such a venture and worse of all, they do not compensate the farmers whose farms have been destroyed by their illegal activities

Mr Joseph Nyarni said, “those people protecting the sand winning site are
National Security officers, police officers and land guards”
The MCE re-echoed the commitment of the Municipal Assembly to work hard in ensuring that they flash out those miscreants from the area in order to save lives and property.
Four excavators, three private cars and 10 tipper trucks have been impounded and necessary action would be taken against the perpetrators.
Some of the Farmers who were in pain over the destruction of their farms lamented that their lives are in danger and they are afraid to talk because those who are protecting the lands are armed so they can easily bounce on them at anytime
They further commended the MCE for arresting those behind the illegal sand winning in the area.
